Hi, I’m Brittany. By day, I work as an Interior Designer in Portland, Oregon. I moonlight as a ceramicist in my tiny studio, aided by my canine companion Elsie.
My art is inspired by my own human experience as a cisgender woman and the challenges and hurdles that I experience living in this body. I’m also endlessly curious about both history and our mortal bodies, and usually explore this through matter out of place.
Most of my pieces are slip-cast from plaster molds. I start by creating a sculpture out of wax clay. Then I use plaster to create a mold of the sculpture. If I’ve done everything right, (and I don’t always!) I can use the plaster molds to create ceramic pieces. I fill the molds with liquid clay (called Slip), which allows me to make my pieces colorful and deliciously thin.
I am a ceramicist and mixed-media artist, and often incorporate plastics, textiles and found objects into my finished pieces.
See what I make and how I make it:
